Friday: Monster Mash

Monster Mash, a mega-group art show inspired by monsters and featuring works, will include around 200 works and an artist roster that include Amanda Valdes, Gregory Dirr, JR Linton, Rosanna Pereyra, Vincent Grotesque, Stitch of Whimsy, Kristin Frenzel, Andrew Sticht, Juan Navarro, Dibbie Jane and tons of others.

Jennifer Love Gironda depicts a monster invasion.
Among the exhibited works is "The Lich" which artist Jon Hunt based on a villainous character in Adventure Time, an animated Cartoon Network series. "Music is a big part of the cartoon and the Lich sort of reminded me of something bands like Molly Hatchet, Metallica or Iron Maiden might feature on their album covers," he says. "So I decided to design an actual LP cover that you might find in the bargain bin at a retro record store, complete with the 'Nice Price' sticker I remember seeing as a kid."

Artist Jennifer Love Gironda drew from her July stockpile of works for the show, selecting an untitled graphitone of a woman staring straight ahead. She then used her imagination and watercolors to create "a motley little crew of monsters and what-nots" to invade her.

"The piece ended up being untitled but if I titled it, it would end up being called 'Ugh, monsters again!'" Gironda notes.

Monster Mash will open 6-9 p.m. Oct. 5 and run through Nov. 17 at Bear and Bird Gallery,
Upstairs at Tate’s, 4566 N. University Drive, Lauderhill. Don't be afraid to wear a costume to this opening. Admission is free, Call 954-748-0181.
