| "El Vicenton" by Vince Herrera |
"My father, Jose Vicente Herrera, was a commercial fisherman. He was killed by a Florida Wildlife Officer in an accident when I was 17 years old. My father was the best man I have ever met. I was 17 when he was killed and that event has greatly impacted my life. It has changed me in ways that I am actually discovering as I paint my 'Go For Broke' series. He worked harder than I ever will. I would get to see him a week a month when he would come home to rest from three or so weeks at sea. I cherished every moment with him and I honestly needed more moments with him. Either way I am torn apart until this day every time I think of him. This painting has really helped me express my love for my father and has somehow healed my wound a bit. I just want my dad to know I love him and that I am the man I am because of him."
