Star Trek, an art show where more than 25 artists will create and/or sell Star Trek-inspired works, will include music from DJ Danxiety and edibles from PS561 Food Truck. The six-hour party, presented by artist Teresa Korber's Art Nouveau Events, will kick off at 8 p.m. June 20.

Jaffe Center for Book Arts
Florida Atlantic University, Wimberly Library, Room 350, 777 Glades Road, 561-297-0226, Jaffecollection.org

Book Arts 101 sessions are 3.5 hours introductions to Jaffe Center for Book Arts. Each includes a 25-minute video about the center and its collection of books, and viewing of selected artists’ books (including a few summer-themed ones in honor of Midsummer Night) and maybe even a few summertime stories.

Afterwards, participants can print a sheet of paper from type set by hand from JCBA's collection of historic wood type in the JCBA Letterpress Studio, and use their sheets for the covers of the books they'’ll make and bind by hand using a technique they can incorporate in future book projects. All bookmakers can take their books home and, as John Cutrone puts it, "read as sleep calls later that night, as you reflect on the new outlook on books (and maybe even life)."

Cutrone, the instructor for the sessions, is a graduate of the MFA Program in the Book Arts at the University of Alabama, is director of JCBA and a partner in Convivio Bookworks, a Lake Worth book arts studio that specializes in limited edition letterpress printed books and broadsides.

Participants can choose from two workshops. One runs 5:30 to 9 p.m. June 20 and the other is 1-4:30 p.m. June 23. Tuition is whatever amount you choose to give to the JCBA Education Fund.
