Build a Better Block is billed as "an urban design exhibit, demonstrating how temporary street improvements, pop-up business, culture and street life can improve the area." DJs featured throughout the day include Mikey R. (Radio Active Records), Esoteric (JAMS), Blue (Laser Wolf), Kems (Hoverock Records), Sensitive Side (No Jacket Required) and Damask (JAMS) as well as a chance to build your own terrarium, participate in interactive art (sculpture, paint, chalk) and watch T-shirt screening by Iron Forge Press. There will also be a Critical Mass ride-through, fresh food cooking demo, design-your-own-sole party (Tom's Shoe) and a mini dog park and grooming stand (for pups).
And ... a pop-up crepes stand, food trucks, coffee, vegan cupcakes, veggie stir-fry, a juice bar and pop-up stands by eight businesses including Radio Active Records, Fresh Foods, Decades Vintage Furniture, Reclaimed Custom Furniture. The Better Block project, which also takes place in other cities, is meant to show "the potential to create a great walkable, vibrant neighborhood center." The events runs 10 a.m to 6 p.m. June 16.

Bird Road Art Walk boasts plenty of free parking and a shuttles that loop around to more than 30 working art studios and spaces in the district located just off the Palmetto Expressway between Bird Road and Southwest 48th Street in Miami.
The studios, primarily located Southwest 75th and Southwest 74th avenues, will feature many exhibitions including Fragments of Thought: Curiosities of the Subconscious featuring new work by Mano and free Rex Goliath wine at Mano Fine Art Project Space (on the second floor at 4225 S.W. 75th Ave., Miami, 305-467-6819, Manofineart.com) and Places of Origin, a new exhibition by Alex Yanes who will exhibit 20 new two- and three-dimensional works at Warehouse Alternative Space (4396 S.W. 74th Ave., Miami, 786-487-0869, Warehousealtspace.com). Yanes's new works will be a custom wall-mounted i-Pod speaker system and multi-dimensional wood pieces., and the opening will include free cocktails from Mike's Hard Lemonade and indie-electric tunes from DJ YSL, from 8 p.m. to midnight. The Places of Origin afte-rparty will be at Chalk Lounge.
Other participating art venues include 3rd Door Art Project, Miami Art Club, Accent Alternative Art Space and Ray Azcuy Art Studio. Bird Road Art Walk starts at 7 p.m. June 16
