The Art of Saturday

Chick Flicks, a seasonal event held on the last Saturday of the month during F.A.T. Village Art Walks, features screenings of films and documentaries by and about female photographer along with short videos by local artists.

The next, which is the season finale, starts at 7 p.m. May 26, and will feature Our City Dreams. which was filmed over a two-year period and takes viewers into the work spaces of New York artists Ghada Amer, Kiki Smith, Marina Abramovic, Nancy Spero and Swoon

Also showing that night will be several short local videos that local video artists Jillian Mayer, Antonia Wright and Samantha Salzinger selected from submissions received from a call to artists put out by the Girls' Club, The  winners are Christina Pettersson (Legend, 2009 and Last Look, 2012); Cristina Molina (Helium Hum, 2011); Rebecca K. Lewis (The Moon, 2012) and Rhonda Mitrani (a.muse.ment, 2011) Those who miss the event will still be able to check out the local films from May 28 through June 1 on the Girls Club blog. F.A.T. Village Art Walk

F.A.T. Village Art Walk will feature exhibitions including South Florida Graffiti Summit & Art Exhibition,  Greener at The Projects, and Circus Basura Art Sideshow, a carnival complete with a 16-foot clown mouth entrance, performers and carnival games such as "Skee Ball" and and "Paintball by Numbers." It's being billed as a "Burning Man-like event" within the Art Walk, which runs 7-11 p.m. May 26.  Check out Arterpillar's story on Greener and her slide show of the April 28 art walk.

"Cargo" by Edin Chavez will be on exhibit at Project Fine Art in Fort Lauderdale.

Eduardo Mendieta, Edin Chavez and Paul Morris will be the featured artists at a show that runs during F.A.T. Village Art Walk, 7 to 11 p.m. May 26. This gallery, located in the Progress Building, was established in February by Christopher Heller, owner of Helium Creative, a graphic design agency located in the neighboring space.

Puppet Rampage, a puppet slam for adults, starts at 9:30 p.m. May 26. Cost: $12.

One-year anniversary bash with drink specials, an all-you-can-eat live crawfish boil (starts at 6 p.m. and costs $20) music by Scam Buddies (10 p.m.) an appearance by Loose Stoolz and friends (11 p.m.), and the promise of "gator wrestling, pony rides, body painting, private dancers, circus tricks, foam machines, mariachi's, beer funnels, clowns, piƱatas, fireworks, acrobats, marching bands, celebrities, glitz and non-stop debauchery" from 9 a.m. May 26 until 1:30 a.m.
