16 New Artist Opportunities

No idea is too outlandish for Swampsace's sculpture garden, but entries deemed unacceptable may be trashed.
Swampspace Gallery has announced its official open call for submissions to the Swampsspace Sculpture Garden Challenge 2012, noting "We are looking for ideas and objects to embellish the grounds of our tropical garden and parking facility. Entrants must submit objects for consideration in fact, anytime. No idea is too outlandish, but we reserve the right to trash stuff deemed not acceptable.

1310 Gallery in Fort Lauderdale has issued a call to visual and performance artists for Appropriated Gender, a show that opens Oct. 20 and runs through Nov. 9. The curator’s goal is "to examine how gender is portrayed visually and enlighten and challenge the audience, stimulating cultural discussion." While contemporary approaches are encouraged, the exhibition is open to all media.  Art must have been created within the last 10 years. Proposals for performances and site-specific installations should be accompanies by an explanation and include examples of previous work. Anne Kolb Nature Center at West Lake Park presents a rotating display of nature themed work by local artists and photographers. Those interested in exhibiting should contact the park at 954-357-5161. 

Green Room has issued a call to working tattoo artists for their painting, illustrations, photographs, sculpture or mixed media works for it's Friday the 13th show on July 13. Confirmed artists include Scott White and Pooch(Altered State Tattoo), Soledad del Real (Black Rose Tattoo Shop), Joey Eyebrows (South Seas Tattoo Company) and Phillip Carlucci (Aces High Tattoo Shop). Art is due 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 5 or 6 and interested artists must contact Gina at Electriccanvas@yahoo.com. Live painters are also needed.
Armory Art Center is seeking artists to participate in 50 Artists/50 Bucks, an event where 50 local and regional artists create works that will be auctioned live. The 50 artists will create original works in a three hour period. The bidding starts at $50 and artists will receive 50 percent of the sale. The art event and auction will take place on Sept. 15. Deadline to apply is July 1. There's a $10 fee for submitting up to five examples of your work. Accepted artists will be notified by July 15. Youngblood: Homecoming 2012, the fifth annual installment of the New World School of the Arts alumni show, seeks former NWSA students to submit works. Deadline for submissions is July 7. For more details on submitting work visit Youngbloodnwsa.wordpress.com/submit/.

Rossetti Fine Art seeks entries for Abstracts 2012, an open-media exhibition that opens June 27 and runs through July 26. Entry fee is $20, $10 for each additional entry. Guidelines can be found at Tomrossetti.com/news.html. Artists should pre-register online by June 22. Intake is June 23.

Lunchbox Gallery has issued a call to artists for its 2012 Summer Photo Show which is open to all photographers over the age of 18 and will include a Best in Show and two honorable mentions in an exhibition that will run Aug. 11 through Oct. 6. entry fee is $25 for four photographs and $5 for each additional JPG. Armory Art Center will organize Open Invitational: On the Map, a juried open invitational that is open to artists from the tri-county area and will feature works of all media in a showcase of recent work (done in the last three years) by emerging and mid-career artists. The fee for submitting up to five images is $30. Deadline for entries is Sept. 7 and accepted artists will be notified by Sept. 14. The exhibition will take place Oct. 18 through Nov. 10 at Montgomery Hall, with an opening reception 7-9 p.m. Oct. 26. For more info, visit Armoryart.org/artist-opportunities. 

Dark Art Exhibition, which will take place at Armory Art Center's Inferno 2012, is a show themed around "sinister, horror, day of the dead, unsettling, voodoo, vampy/campy, secrets etc."Application and images (4x6 at 300dpi) must be sent by Oct. 1 via email only to Loren@armoryart.org. Inferno 2012 seeks art booth vendors including sculptors, painters, photographers and crafters for its evening art fest and exhibition held 7-10 p.m. Oct. 18. Deadline for applications is Sept. 7 and the contact is Loren@armoryart.org.

Fashion ARTillery, the first annual wearable art fashion show presented by the Armory Art Center, is coming in January 2013. The exhibition is a showcase of work by artists who transform their artistic visions into wearable art. General admission and VIP tickets will be sold with the latter including a special pre-runway cocktail party featuring an open bar, hors d'oeuvres, performances. and  priority seating for runway show. Cintas Foundation has announced that its competition for the 2012-13 Fellowships in architecture, music and the visual arts is now open. Deadline is Aug. 1 and an exhibition for visual arts finalists will open Oct. 10 in Miami Dade College's Freedom Tower. Check out the announcement about the competition and the application for $10,000 fellowships that are awarded annually and paid in quarterly stipends.

Broward Art Guild seeks landscapes or still life works for its Landscapes and Still Life exhibition that runs July 5 through 27, with an opening reception 6:30 to 9 p.m. July 7. Artist intake is 4-6 p.m. June 29 and noon to 3 p.m. June 30. For more info, visit Browardartguild.org/exhibitions.htm.

C&I Studios will hold a Night Owl Market that starts at 5 p.m. June 30 and will feature indie vendors selling clothing accessories and one-of-a-kind items while local DJ and Radio-Active Records store owner Mikey Ramirez plays music. The Bubble seeks artists for Paint for Your Liiiife, described as "a multi-faceted art experience representing how life and art are one. " The event will include art vendors, food, a theatrical performance by Good Theatre, burlesque by Sofia Luna, extreme juggler Pablo and music by The Midnight Hour, Yuri Keyes, Dooms De Pop and Drawing Bored. The party starts at 7 p.m. June 30. Admission is $10 and includes free drinks all night. Artists and vendors who want to part of this event should contact Billie B Good at Billiebeegood@hotmail.com.
