Betweeners

Niki Lopez is using her old art flyers to make new smaller works such as "9 Lives of Love," each with a hand-painted frame.

In between blog posts, stories and real-life chores, I like to keep up with local artist blogs. I've been keeping a file of things I found and wanted to share here and will probably post such lists, which I'll call Betweeners, on a regular basis. Here's what I have for you this week:

Artist Niki Lopez has found a good use for all those art show flyers that might otherwise end up in a dumpster. She's using them to make small art works in handpainted frames.

Jacques de Beaufort, a Palm Beach Gardens artist and an associate professor of Visual Art and Art History at Palm Beach State College, has posted a new painting:

Crissa-Jean Chappell likens making a book to making bread.

Crissa-Jean Chappell, author of Total Constant Order, wrote a great post that compares writing a book to making bread: Her next book, Narc, is scheduled for August publication.

Artist Neri Street is working on a project with young artists and performers, and has no place to put the costumes and props. She's looking for donated  "plastic hangers, plastic bins, old bookshelves or a rolling rack" before Feb. 16.  Anyone who can help should call Neri at 954-599-5210 or e-mail her at Bluestreetfilms@gmail.com.

Beached Miami posts about a new contemporary art gallery that will soon open in Wynwood.

Girls Club in Fort Lauderdale held a workshop in which artists and writers mined the Girls Clubs' current exhibition Re-Framing the Feminine for inspiration for other works, some of which have been posted to the Girls' Club blog.

C&I Studios Soft Open Video from C&I Studios on Vimeo.

FTL Collective posts a cool video about Fort Lauderdale by the most recent inhabitants at Fat Village in Fort Lauderdale, as well as a video by another company that challenges people to spend an hour doing something that really matters to them, and two hours helping someone else.

Coral Morphologic Blog takes us inside their world with their recently posted video made by Jeff Jetton (Brightest Young Things) and Brendan Canty (Fugazi) during Art Basel.

Artist Nancy Martini, posted about the first Wynwood Green, which will be held on the last Sunday of each month in Wynwood.

See a time-lapse video, recorded over two days, of Patrick Maxcy painting a mural in Grand Junction, CO.
